Mental Health Counseling is a tool to help you enjoy optimal health, both physical and mental. In our modern world, everything is fast-paced, and you rarely have time to process or heal, let alone have fulfilling life. At Be Well we have highly skilled therapists who work with individuals who have been diagnosed or are experiencing anxiety, depression, sleep problems, anger, irritability, existential crisis, or simply needing to vent.
Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms while increasing your well-being and speeding your healing process. There are several different types of psychotherapy, and some types may work better with certain problems or issues.
Safe, Non-judgmental Psychotherapy for Everyone
At Be well we provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for you to heal and become the best version of yourself. What’s more, we offer sliding-scale, as we believe everyone should have excess to therapy and counseling.
The professional team of psychotherapists at Be Well are fully trained and accredited in the therapies listed below:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)is based on the idea that thoughts influence behaviour. CBT is appropriate for all ages including children, adolescents and adults. The evidence-based technique is appropriate for conditions such as Major Depression Disorder, Anxiety, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Eating Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and other anxieties. CBT is a great tool which can be used in your everyday life to challenge and understand the patterns of your thinking. By understanding the effects of negative thinking, and learning to challenge negative thinking, your psychotherapist will work together with you to create new positive nerve stimulations.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) approach is to sort out past experiences that are related to a negative emotion. When the thought is “processed” it is no longer maladaptive and it will be replaced with a positive thought and feeling. This will encourage healthier behaviour and social interaction. The process of EMDR at Be Well in Thornhill occurs in eight phases:
- History and treatment planning
- Preparation, establish trust and explain treatment in depth
- Assessment, identify negative feelings and replacement positive thought
- Desensitization, includes eye movement
- Installation, to strengthen positive thought
- Body scan
- Closure, occurs at the end of the session
- Re-evaluation.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is the number one treatment for Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD) as well as anxiety and phobias. EMDR has also shown success as a treatment for depression, eating disorders, schizophrenia, sexual dysfunction, and stress caused by chronic disease.
Gestalt Therapy
The word “gestalt” means whole. The principle of Gestalt Therapy consists of body, mind, and soul, which is best understood when viewed through your own eyes in the present view. In Gestalt Therapy there is an emphasis to alleviate unresolved anger, pain, anxiety, resentment, and other negative feelings. By building self-awareness, Gestalt Therapy helps clients better understand not only themselves but also how their choices affect their health and relationships. In return visits to Be Well clients develop more self-confidence results a fulfilled life.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a guided hypnosis, or a trance like state of focus and concentration achieved with the help of a hypnotherapist. In the trance like state, clients turn their attention inward to find and utilize the natural source which will promote positive change. Hypnotherapy works with the sub-conscious to change behaviours and thoughts which are causing disturbances in your life. Hypnotherapy can be used to treat anxiety, phobias, substance abuse, sexual dysfunction, undesirable behaviour, and bad habits. It can also be used to improve sleep, communication and relationship issues.
Reiki/Energy Healing
Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japan. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. Furthermore, Reiki is not massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. Reiki is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy.
Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki Practitioners at Be Well and elsewhere understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki”, or energy, should be strong and free-flowing. When “ki” is strong and free-flowing it is believed that a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.
A Reiki session can not only help ease tension and stress but can also help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional.

What Is Involved in Your Reiki Session?
During your first Reiki Session at Be Well we will go over the areas you would like to work on or improve, including emotional, physical or spiritual. This will help your Reiki clinician set up a personalized agenda for speeding up your healing and providing you with optimal health.
During your session essential oils, sage and crystal will be used in combination with Reiki to provide a deep cleansing. After the session is complete your clinician will provide water as you may be feeling thirsty after the session. Every client is advised to stay hydrated to cleanse themselves of all toxicity in their body. If there are any questions after the session your Reiki clinician will stay to answer and address your concerns.
Mindfulness Therapy
Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When we are mindful, we carefully observe our thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad. Mindfulness is a great tool to identify hidden emotions that may be causing problems in our personal and professional life. Mindfulness is frequently used in meditation. It has many positive benefits including lowering stress, reducing harmful ruminating, improving our overall health, and protecting against depression and anxiety.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on recognizing, acknowledging, understanding, expressing, and overcoming negative and contradictory feelings and repressed emotions in order to improve the patient’s interpersonal experiences and relationships. This process includes helping patients understand how repressed earlier emotions affect current decision-making, behaviour, and relationships. Patients learn to analyze and resolve their current issues. This is achieved by changing their behaviour in current relationships through deep exploration and analysis of earlier experiences and emotions.
Solution Focused Based Therapy (SFBT)
Solution Focused Based Therapy begins with what the individual is currently doing to initiate behavioural and lifestyle changes. The therapist at Be Well uses intervention such as specific questioning techniques, 0-10 scales, empathy, and compliments that help a person recognize their virtue, courage, and strength. Individuals learn to focus on what they can do, which allows them to find solutions and make positive change.
Emotional Freedom Technique(EFT)
During an Emotional Freedom Technique session your Be Well therapist will encourage you to look at your current emotional issues and help you discover feelings and emotions that you may not realize you have. You will learn to express your emotions in away that will help you connect, rather than disconnect, with your partner or family. You will learn new ways to listen, and stay attuned to another’s emotions as you discover more productive ways to respond to emotional situations.
