New year, New Mindset, New Fitness tips.
A very happy, healthy and prosperous new year to you all readers there from Be Well Team. Holidays are sadly over and everyone is trying to get back to their routine with the hope to stick to your new year resolution; It has been a half way through January, and some of you have already noticing that you are finding difficulty to stick with your new year resolution. In reality, you do not need a new year or a new day to start over. “YOU ONLY NEED A NEW MINDSET”. So today, I am here to discuss about how to make a realistic and simple goal for your self which are easy to follow and easy to stick with it to succeed in it.
So, first thing is always making a goal which is you find an interest in doing it and you think you would do it really. You will do it because you enjoy doing it and not as a punishment otherwise you will stop it very soon. The best thing to start with is start with only one goal at a time and for minimum amount of time and minimum investment. We are humans and very few people just change their selves overnight, but most of us do it by time with consistent effort. So, remember “CONSISTANCY IS THE KEY”. First list out the things you want to improv in your life. Examples are any your habit like waking up early; less caffeine; more positive thoughts; less time spent on social media; unfollow negative people; having a healthy weight; drink more water; cook more often; learn something new; save some money; the list goes endless. The fact is you should only choose one which really you want in your life and it matters the most to you. Let’s pick one for an instance as being healthy this year. I will give you some my ideas about how you can incorporate it in your busy routine. If you are a person who never went gym or done any activity all over your life, there is less possibility that you will end up doing it throughout the year. So before you get yearly membership with hefty amount try something simple here. So, the realistic goal can be doing five-five minutes self stretches in bed everyday to begin with. I am sure everyone can spend just five minutes before getting out of the bed in the morning and before sleep at night. So, choose some SPECIFIC stretches or self exercise, if you want to learn more about general fitness exercise to improve overall health you are always welcome to our clinic. Learn exercise that will make you more flexible and energetic. It is measurable that you are not really struggling with sparing extra time from your busy schedule to stick with your goal, you do not need to drive to gym or anywhere, you even do not need to go on floor or yoga mat so it is really easy and practically possible to stick with it and see the results. You will have a sense of satisfaction that you achieved what you thought for. If you start enjoying it learn some more, increase your time from five minutes to ten or fifteen which means you will be doing exercise at the end of the day for 20 to 30 minutes, and you did not realise it or not have to struggle to make extra half an hour from your busy day.
As a physiotherapist I always try to make SMART goals which means Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic and Timely. The world is of smart technology smart phone, smart tv, smart home, smart car so why our goals can not be SMART. So, the quick tips are here.
1. Choose specific activity which you really enjoy: Let it be any activity swimming, gym; yoga; reading; meditation; walking; kickboxing; Zumba and the list is endless.
2. You should be able to know your progress by simply measuring your progress.
3. The activity you choose it should be easy so you try to continue doing it, if you choose something non attainable or very challenging means at some point you might not want to do it any further.
4. Know your daily routine and be kind to yourself by not setting very high demanding goal make something easy and realistic which you can really meet and achieve.
5. Time is money, you do not want to waste your time in what you think is not going to make any difference or any changes in your life in given time so keep track of time and make up your mind by the end of this year where do you want to see yourself and simply stick with it.
