Compression therapy has long been utilized for its benefits in reducing inflammation, decreasing post training muscle soreness and improving the lymphatic system. Apparel titan Underarmour has created an entire brand off of their compression line for consumers to enjoy these benefits.
Studies by Winke et al (2018) and Heapy et al (2018) demonstrated the benefits of pulsed compression therapy with respect to delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in forearm flexors compared to a compression sleeve.
We are happy to announce that we are offering Normatec pulsed compression therapy at the clinic!
The NormaTec PULSE Recovery Systems are dynamic compression devices designed to help active individuals and athletes recover faster between trainings and after performance. It can also be used as an adjunct to control for inflammation after acute injuries.
The NormaTec system uses compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery. When you use the system, you will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are molded to your exact body shape. The session will then begin by compressing your feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on which attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.
